Tech Break: Brain Wave for iPhone and iPad

I have always had trouble falling asleep. When I lay down, my mind keeps working overtime and it is very difficult for me to settle in. My wife likes to sit in bed and watch TV in order to fall asleep so we got one of those sets of wireless headphones so that she can listen without the sound disturbing me. The flashing of the TV in the darkened room still persists though and makes it even harder for me to get asleep. Until just recently, that is.

I recently discovered an app for my iPhone that has made a world of difference in my ability to fall asleep, and stay asleep. It’s called Brain Wave. It uses “sequences of binaural tones combined with Soothing Ambient Nature Sounds to stimulate specific Brainwave Frequencies and induce different states of mind.”

Don’t ask me. All I can tell you is the “deep sleep” program works. I set it to 30 minutes, put my earphones on and voila, I sleep. I usually wake just barely when it ends, just enough to pull the earphones out and set my phone on the end table and then I roll over and sleep. I sleep through the whole night and do not wake – not even once. When my alarm goes off I am refreshed. It’s almost a miracle.

I’ve not tried any of the other programs (it comes with 25 programs including: Anxiety, Sleep, Relaxation, Focus, Concentration, and Memory). I’ll be trying the others as time goes along.

If you have trouble falling asleep and have an iPhone I would highly recommend you give it a shot.
